Reflecting in the sand

Reflecting in the sand

The painting above had the finishing touches added over the weekend. Inspired by a Boxing Day walk that felt more like mid summer with it's blue skies and unseasonal warmth. The smoothness of the wet sand acted like a mirror reflecting the light as the tide lazily retreated.

February it seems will be colder and greyer. Walking past a shop yesterday some flame orange lilies caught my eye and I couldn't resist buying a pot to chase the grey away. Their warmth is welcome and the shapes they make are always lovely to draw. With the Pantone colour of 2012 being Tangerine Tango I'm expecting to see a lot more of this uplifting colour which has been described as 'the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward' now that can't be bad.

I bought some flowers as well recently they certainly bring some cheer into a room especially at this time of the year which my usual green plants don't seem to do. A very accomplished painting Lisa though I think the vertical brush work of the reflection in the sand is competing with the beautiful cloud above it. That is me being fussy again isn't it! sorry!

This painting, the distance you achieve and the reflections is very special. I like it very much.

Hi Lisa! Wow, beautiful sky and reflections in the wet Dorset sand - the best in the UK for sculptures apparently ! Orange is just what we all need to chase the winter blues away - and together they make the most wonderful neutrals too !

Morning Caroline, it's good to be fussy! I wondered about the vertical reflection but decided to go with it. I really wanted to portray the 'wetness' of the sand.

Hello Edward and welcome. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment.

Hi Lydie, thank you.

Well hello there Michael, it's great to see you. I've used the sand in paintings before but never tried sculpting... maybe I'll have to give it a go. It's certainly been cold and grey, although no snow, I hope you are keeping warm. Thanks about the painting.

Good Morning Lisa!... I love the freshness and lilting... free feeling of that fluffy cloud... playfully spread-eagled across that wonderfully graded sky!

The sand is indeed "wet"... and if one looks carefully (in life) the shimmering reflections... like haedlights on wet pavement do indeed come back to the viewer... vertically! Good eye!

A lovely seaside gem Lisa! No fuss... no muss for "Me"!

Good Painting!
Warmest regards,
Bruce
