Sketches from a quick trip

Well now, has it really been three weeks since I last posted? It doesn't feel like it. I've had a busy time with a lot of non arty things and a ten day break to Jersey in the middle having a good catch up with my family. On the trip out on the ferry we were just heading around Old Harry Rocks when a dolphin arced out of the water, had I been looking out of the window a split second later I would have missed him. It felt like a good omen to start the trip. I haven't seen them very often, maybe a dozen times, and when I have it's mostly been in Cornwall but the thrill of seeing a dolphin in the wild is just magic.

My good omen to start the trip didn't extend to lucky weather unfortunately with only a couple of good days of sunshine so not much sketching was done. I did manage a couple though... and I always feel inspired after a trip home. -I still call it home even though I haven't lived there for half my life :o)

Now to knuckle back down to work, exhibitions are looming and there's lots to do.

Welcome back from Home Lisa!... Seems we were both on journeys... but in different directions...sort of! HA HA!!

Your ferry sketch certainly captures a sense of the weather that you mention... very cool and questionable (for sketching at least).

"Sketch" weather for painting painting perhaps... but wonderful for family visiting time... and "lurking" .... as my two lads referred to our beach combing trips... in search of pirate treasure.

Good luck with the revved up activity in preparations for Summer Exhibitions!

Good Painting!
Warmest regards,
Bruce

There's a coincidence Bruce, I lurked on the beach collecting treasure too :o) my suitcase was twice as heavy coming back as it was going because of all the seaglass/china, driftwood, shells and stones. I'm sure some of these will make their way into some work in the form of colours and textures. Isn't the beach exciting!

It's great to hear from you, have a lovely weekend.

Yes indeed, I certainly did see the Big Moon. That's the nice thing about living in a relatively flat area I guess. I've never seen dolphins in the wild (not here in the UK anyway) so I think that must have been a good omen.
Love the sketches, Lisa. Gouache is great for sketching isn't it? Hope to see you back with some more gorgeous Dorset landscapes soon!

Hi Michael, you are so lucky! I was hoping to see it in Jersey where there isn't so much light pollution. It would have been so bright! Just my luck it was overcast - the lucky dolphin swan against me ;o)

Are you coming back to Dorset this year?

No light pollution around here - we've only just got water, let alone electrickery ;)
Not sure about this years hols yet - nothing planned so far but we're starting to get a touch of the Purbeck withdrawal symptoms already so who knows?
