Sketchbook pages...

Inbetween printing and working on a commission I have been working away in my sketchbooks squirreling away ideas and inspiration for later projects. Sometimes pages are just recordings of little things that have caught my attention - like the daffodils flowering during the first week of January! I'm pretty sure that hasn't happened before but we have had a very mild winter so far. A walk on the beach at Southbourne was very fruitful for ideas. The light was very dramatic as heavy showers started to roll in and the energetic tides were throwing up all sorts of treasures like these mermaid purses (a much more romantic name than fish egg case) some were smooth as silk others furry like animal skin in colours ranging from black to pale olive. Anyway here are a couple of pages...

Hi there Lisa!... Lovely studies... both lively and with a sort of whimsy! A nice way to initiate your New Year explorations!

My boys and I "lurked"... (beach combed) these very same treasures on Nova Scotian beaches after a storm. Oh what Pirates we were!... What adventures we enjoyed! I still have a couple remaining from the [museum] collections we made together... all shelved carefully in an old tool shed!.... Still "Imagineering"... each of us...

Thanks for sharing your treasures and drawings!

Happy Lurking... painting and printing in 2016!
Warmest regards,
Bruce

Dear Lisa - loved seeing your daffodils and mermaid purses. It does look like you are having a mild winter. Can't wait to see the daffodils blooming here - in the meantime I will enjoy yours. Thanks for sharing your sketches. Have a wonderful day.

Magical memories Bruce. My little Prince is just starting to get to the age where he enjoys beachcombing. At the moment pebbles are his favourite, especially ones that are a bit too big for him to carry easily. I think he might already be in training for worlds strongest (little) man. We will have to start a museum ourselves, it's a great idea - maybe I will catalogue them for fun reading in the future. Thank you for sharing, best wishes.

Hi Chris, thank you. The tulips of your latest post are divine!

Hello Debbie, we had a couple of days of 'normal for the time of year cold' and now it's milder again. It seems most odd to me. The cold brought the sun which was lovely. I hope your daffodils arrive soon, there is something about them that lifts the spirits and brings a smile. Best wishes.
