Ran's Glimmers - drypoint with mixed media

'...have gold, so if lost at sea you aren't empty handed to Ran's hall'

- Fridhjaf's saga

Golden tributes thrown over the side of the boat to appease Ran for a safe crossing whilst a recurring theme in many mythologies is to pay the boatman for crossing into the next life. The more about mythology that I read the more connections I make between peoples and cultures, we are more alike than not. The same worries and fears even over vast distances and time, I wish we could remember that a bit more.

  1. Lisa - these are just gorgeous. Your sketchbook pages are just beautiful as well. Like your observation about how even in the past folks were filled with the same emotions we are experiencing now. Read where you your suffering with an unusual heat wave. It has just been a year for so many of us. Hope you and Lu get to be able to walk early soon. Take care and thank you always for your wonderful visits. Hugs!

  2. The addition of the gold glimmers really sets this one off well and I like how you carried the net over the edge of the print. Each print you make, each sketch you draw in preparation of the print, is a work of art in itself but the whole story is the creation from idea/thought to final prints. Amazing discipline you have while I flitter all over the place!

  3. These are so evocative and, I can't think of the word-- like something ancient and primal that calls to you, like the sound of a horn in deep woods. I've read a couple of sagas; always said if I had twin sons I'd name them Glum and Grim after the twins in Egil's ( I think it was) saga

  4. Hi Debbie, so glad you had a nice break. Thank you so much. I don't think humankind has changed all that much over the centuries have we. Still want/need the same things, still prepared to go to all sorts of lengths to get them it seems. Wishing you a lovely week.

Hi Rhonda, don't you worry, I am flittering too especially at the moment. Too many rabbit holes. Sometimes it is nice to break out of the borders I think, I might explore that a bit more. I feel like I am telling a story somehow. Wishing you a creative week.

Hi Laura, I am trying to read my way through the sagas but there is so many. I am taking my time. Finding good to read translations can be tricky sometimes too. It has made me very happy that you are feeling the (?) that I am trying to create. I don't have words either just images. I have done a happy dance! Best wishes.
