A3 sketchbook page - poppies FW acrylic ink ©2011 Lisa Le Quelenec |
The poppies have finished now but the above is a sketchbook page I did back in May when they were in all their glory. I think with a bit of tweaking I could make three paintings out of this page, it would be a lovely change from all the blue I paint. Acrylic ink is nice to play with too, such intense colours when used neat and almost like watercolour when diluted. So many paintings are flowing through my head at the moment...
these are beautiful Lisa - you've absolutely got the delicacy and translucency of poppies here
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa. I am always in awe of anyone that can paint flowers well but these are just gorgeous :) Are you thinking of doing bigger pieces in acrylic paint - or perhaps watercolour ;)
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHi there Lisa!... Just discovered your wonderful site... and marvellous sketchbooks!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your airy landscapes... they have great beauty... but your sketchbook entries like the poppies and feathers are gems...rich in detail... yet the images maintain a loose... painterly and pleasing-to-the-eye vitality!
I enjoy both in the viewing... and because it is the basis for much of my own painting process!
Good Painting!... and Happy Summer Sketching!
Warm regards,
Bruce Sherman
I will be back! Great work Lisa!
Hi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and absolutely love your sketchbook work. These poppies are amazing in their shapes and sensditive but vibrant colour! I know you're thinking of translating them into paintings but i think they look marvellous just as they are.
I'll certainly be back to follow your blog :)
Morning Vivien, thank you. I think using acrylic ink helped with these. I going to try and keep the fluidity of the paint in a larger version. Fingers crossed :o)
ReplyDeleteHi Michael, many thanks. I'm thinking of going bigger, maybe a squared off full sheet of watercolour paper size. I'm still formulating the idea but maybe a mix of acrylic and acrylic ink. I think I'd use whole tubes of watercolour paint to get the intensity of colour.
Thank you for stopping over Jala, I'm glad you like them. :o)
Hello Bruce, welcome. That's high praise indeed, thank you :o) I'll be sure to come and visit your blog, I love looking at sketchbooks to see where the paintings come from and learn about other peoples processes.
Welcome Theresa, I saw your name and recognised it instantly.... it took me a while to figure out where from... 100 washes...doh! I'd been admiring your work from afar. Thank you for commenting.
Wow, what an amazing sketchbook page! Vibrant.
ReplyDeleteHi Loriann, thank you. I enjoyed peeking into your sketchbooks last week. Just off now to see this weeks post. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteHi! I was looking for works of art to show children to inspire them to sketch and paint poppies and after Van Gogh and Georgia O'Keeffe I found you! Love these and will be showing them to my class this half term! Alison Rich
