March moon

March Moon
15x26cm acrylic on paper

We have been having very clear brightly moonlit nights here the last couple of days. I had started work on a moon painting and whilst the moon was full last night I completed it.

This painting joins a series of four others that I began last year. You can read the posts for them here , here and here . It seems apt that the next painting for the series should be painted in March.

All the songs of spring are being sung by the birds in the garden and in honour of this I am starting a spring clean of the studio. It's amazing how piles of paper, unfinished paintings, quick notes and sketches etc can pile up. Not to mention the pile of framing that has grown.... Methinks it will be a big job despite having tried so hard to keep on top of it. So I'll leave you with an early wish for a very happy and creative weekend.

  2. Good series - and a great subject. I got a peek at the moon at 3 am this morning before it ducked behind a bank of clouds for a rainy start to the day.

  4. Hi Sarah, welcome. Thank you for stopping by and commenting. I think I may be moonstruck ;o)

Hello Rhonda, now were you going to bed late or getting up early? We've been lucky to have super clear skies until today. I hope your rain didn't last too long. Thank you about the painting.

Hi Bruce, thank you. How did you guess my favourite colour? Blue, light blue, mid blue, dark blue, green blue, grey blue, black blue, indigo, turquoise, azure....sigh... now I've drifted ;o) Have a great weekend.

  5. Hi Lisa!
As you might expect I have been howling at the moon for a few nights now in the hope of seeing the Aurora Borealis but as yet no luck, and now it's clouded over :o(

Your March moon is big and bright shining between the birches, what a great subject and composition!

Hope the Spring clean doesn't keep you away too much from painting.

  6. Hi David! I'm sorry you haven't had a chance to see 'The lights' it's one of my lifes ambitions to see that one day. I'll keep my fingers crossed that things clear up for you.

Spring cleaning is progressing and I keep stumbling across half finished and finished work that I had forgotten about so it's a time of discovery too. Can't be bad. -Thanks about the painting I think there are more on this theme to come.

  7. How lovely, what a fine book illustration it would make I can almost imagine a lovely tale to go with this painting. Good luck with the spring clear out of the studio I have just done mine this weekend and it feels much better now with more space to move about in.
