Sea fan pen and ink

Sea Fan sketch pen and ink ©2012Lisa Le Quelenec

It feels like a long time since I last posted, so much has been going on. I've not had much time over the last week to do any work that I could post but I did grab some time for sketching a sea fan. I turned to pen and ink as I haven't used this medium for a while and I love the sensitivity of a dip pen. Whilst drawing I was struck by the amazing efficiency of the structure of the sea fan. The flatness and the way the fronds rarely overlap managing to form a very efficient net to filter it's food from the water. I think I could learn some lessons in efficiency from the sea fan.... (note to self; one thing at a time, one direction at a time and go with the flow....)

  1. Really lovely, Lisa... it has that sense of fluid motion... both from the quality of line and the variety in the ink value.

  3. Wow! Thank you so much Sherrie, just what I was aiming for.

Hi Judy, thank you. It's always crazy busy this time of year isn't it?

  4. Good Morning Lisa!... THis time of year plays havoc with us all. Christmas is such a time of push -and-pull... with time at a premium.

As artists we often beat ourselves up... demanding that the Muse appear. Didn't you know?... "She"... is out shopping!.... "Painting the town red" ... with her credit card! HA HA!!

Continue to do what you are doing - play for the sake of play. As is the case here... you'll maybe surprise yourself... but at least get rid of the urge to scold your Self!

    Good Painting!
    Warmest regards,
    Bruce

  5. Hi Bruce, This week I will do more drawing and play - the muse needs to stop being so frivolous and get down to work so she will have earnt the holiday that is fast approaching. - I always get the 'grumps' when I don't get enough time to work ;o)
    Best wishes.
