July's Full Moon sketchbook page A6 ©2017LisaLeQuelenec |
I have read that some Native American tribes call the full moon in July the Thunder Moon because of the hot and humid storms that can arrive at this time. In Europe it was sometimes called the Mead Moon, (a drink made from fermenting honey, yeast and water.) because it occurs at the same time as larger honey yields. I know parts of the country have had a good display of storms but whilst it has been hot here and we have had our share of rain to clear the air there has been no thunder or lightening so far - we do have many honey bees busy in the garden though.
After night sky watching I have been inspired to paint the velvety blues and a set of inky coloured watercolour shells have been the result. All six are available individually at Seaside Studios UK

Love the colors and the full moon painting - our full moon viewing was spectacular in July, too - that moon was so bright we were getting dark shadows all around from the light it shed. Sometimes nature is just wonderful and so uplifting. Glad you tried the full moon painting, even if it had you painting in the dark :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post, Lisa! I bet you DID do the night sky justice - your sketch is that beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the insight into the full moon, and so glad it provided you with inspiration to compete these stunning new watercolor shells!
Hi Rhonda, so glad you could get to enjoy it too. Nights like that probably make all the work that you did on your decking most worth it. It really was a stunner.
ReplyDeleteThank you Chris. I think this might be my inky blue period ;o) best wishes.
Dear Lisa - your shell studies are just beautiful. Indigo was the perfect color and your moon paintings are so awesome friend. Hope you are having a blessed day.
ReplyDeleteThank you Debbie! Best wishes :o)
