Just a card - Indie Week

This week is Just a Card's campaign week to celebrate and support artists, craftspeople and all small independent businesses. A wonderful idea, now in it's fifth year, sponsored by The British Independent Retailers Association (Bira) and endorsed by many amazing supporters from the arts and business to celebs in the UK and around the world.

Whilst I post images of paintings and printmaking, like a lot of artists, I also make small images for handmade cards which are available in my Folksy. Selected paintings and prints are available as cards, prints, stationery and accessories at RedBubble . All the 'just a card' sales help keep us going especially in recent times.

It is never just a card, just a print, just a painting... it always means so much more. Just imagine, every time you hit the checkout somewhere an artist, craftsperson and independant business owner is doing a happy dance. If they are like me there will be a huge smile on their face and a daft butt wiggle too. I don't think you would get that so often with big business would you?
Just a Card  explain it so much more eloquently than I can, follow the link to the website. Support the campaign and support independents everywhere...go on you know you want to 😉

A fun little project - carving stamps and making cards.

Three little carved stamps   4x7cm each   ©2019LisaLeQuelenec

I had carved this set of little stamps some time ago and used them to make a set of greetings cards. It was a fun little project and they became best sellers when I used to do fairs and demonstrations. I thought I would re-print them and have made them available on Seasidestudiosuk on Folksy. I think I might make some new designs as it is an enjoyable project especially for a rainy afternoon.

I've been Bubbled!

Poppy cards available at Red Bubble ©2013Lisa Le Quelenec

This weekend an exciting package arrived. I'd uploaded a selection of my images onto a site called Red Bubble  and the cards that I ordered arrived. I am very impressed with the quality and speed with which they came, they are better than I could have imagined. Cards and prints, both unframed and framed, are available. I will be adding to the collection over the coming months.

This also opens up new possibilities for my work as well and is giving me new food for thought. For a long time I have sketched with water-soluble pens, used collage and other materials whose longevity and stability I have considered dubious. This is fine when doing sketchbook work and experimenting but would, to me, be unethical to use if making work for sale. I want my collectors to have a product that isn't going to disappear off the page or canvas. However if the artwork is a reproduction print made with quality inks on archival paper and is guaranteed a lifespan then there is huge scope for indulging use of these materials and pushing new boundaries. Not to mention purely digitally created imagery. What an exciting world this has opened up!

A creative hobby

Greetings cards ©2012 Lisa Le Quelenec

A hobby of mine that I have enjoyed for a number of years has been card making. There is something very satisfying about working with design elements on a very small scale. One of the methods that I use is to carve eraser stamps with my own designs. I love the process from the initial designing to carving (with lino tools) the erasers which being small and very soft don't take long to do.

Today I have listed sets of three cards like those above in my Etsy store, (you can purchase them here).
I was just wondering what you thought and what your hobbies are when you are not busy painting. Do you find that your hobbies follow a creative bent?
