For each colour family there is a selection of plain solid colours, pin stripes and all over dotty co-ordinating fabrics, wallpaper and accessories to combine with one or more of the main patterns. Spoonflower can reproduce the designs on a range of fabric from cotton and linen to chiffon and velvet to even further personalise your choice.

Some of the designs are a little smaller in scale which makes them ready to use in smaller craft projects.

The main designs are also available from RedBubble for further choices in accessories, for example aprons, mugs, coasters, tote bags, scarves and notebooks. I rather like some of the patterns on the summer dresses from RedBubble too.

Colour palettes for a new Fabric and Wallpaper Collection.

I thought I would share how I start to play with colours and choose palettes for new pattern collections in fabric and wallpaper. I am very drawn at the moment to yellows, ochres and soft lilacs which feels like a big leap from the teals, blues and turquoise I have turned to in painting and printmaking lately.

I am very inspired by this postcard that I picked up at the Russell-Cotes Museum of 'Magpie or Still Life with Magpie by Clementina M Hull 1866-1908. It may not come across in this picture but the colours are both subtle and vibrant and the complimentaries sing beautifully against each other. I need the cheerful colour in the middle of Winter amidst all the grey and dark.

Isolating the colours and curating them with shells, objects from my collections and paint swatches that I have painted is an interesting exercise. I like to move physical objects around and lay them on painted swatches as it feels more real than just manipulating on a screen. I want to see how colour behaves in different light and how it will drape around a form like fabric will in real life. It helps me to imagine how it can be used within a real setting.

Isn't the koi door handle and plate above stunningly beautiful? This is from the Russell-Cotes Museum too. The stripes are from corrugated plastic roofing on Boscombe pier - not quite so artisan and romantic but colour inspiring in its own way.

Colour Inspiration Warm Terracotta   ©2026LisaLeQuelenec

This gorgeous botanical sample was photographed at an exhibition of May Morris designs last year. It was amazing to see the drawings, watercolours and evolution of her designs along side the finished work.

You can see from these palettes that I am a bit of a magpie too, always collecting treasures, making connections. Sometimes the flotsam and jetsam takes years to surface and influence work but I think the benefit of time is important, ideas need to evolve and percolate waiting for the right moment.

The new Collection will hopefully be ready to share next week or the week after, I have been working away on them since December and am partway through loading them onto Spoonflower.

Shell Seekers - new design collection for fabric and wallpaper

A new collection of designs in response to a design challenge on Spoonflower - the brief was Delft Tile.

I fell down a rabbit hole researching and wanted to emulate the calming, serene, peaceful and unhurried feelings the antique tiles evoke. Once the main design was created  I couldn't help but make a selection of co-ordinates, in what I hope could be used to make a peaceful sanctuary to retreat to.

All the designs can bs viewed here in my Spoonflower store. Stationery and home accessories can be found here in my RedBubble shop.

November's spiral shell drawing

WIP spiral shell drawing   pencil and ink   ©2025LisaLeQuelenec

November's drawing is a weighty one. I always think this shell would make a pretty lethal weapon. You can hold it in your hand very comfortably with it's claws between your fingers as it is a rather large specimen. I guess the creature that lives inside could potentially use it's protrusions to warn off predators maybe, it certainly looks fierce.

Can you believe that there is only one more drawing to go? I can't I feel like I have just been getting started but the year is going so fast! I will need to think up next years one-a-month project soon.

I am also VERY excited to show you the pattern that I made in the summer from the first six drawings, this is a sample of the fabric in the small scale in mid blue. I am so pleased with how this came out (even if I do say so myself) - and I did a happy dance! The fat quarter that I ordered is on the petal signature cotton but lots of other fabrics are available like velvet, fleece, twill, cotton silk, denim and I am very tempted to order some of the wallpaper as a sample (I will have to think up a project to use it on - I think it would be lovely as a book cover).

To see the available colourways click here and look for the Coastal Collection for the relevant colour.

Acorns & Oak - new wallpaper, fabric & home accessories collection

Acorn inspiration and sketch  ©2025LisaLeQuelenec

It feels like we have been in the long slide into Autumn now for a couple of weeks. Acorns are falling in abundance and along with collecting some to draw again I have been putting together the final touches to a new collection on Spoonflower inspired by last years photo references, sketches and the drypoints.

I will slowly be adding some of these designs onto RedBubble so more co-ordinating home accessories and gifts will be available.

As you know if you have been reading along for a while I'm not really a red person, as a colour family it scares me somewhat, but I really enjoyed stretching my wings with the spicy paprika reds, gingers, cinnamon and turmeric. I think it is a close second favourite to the Winter blues. Do you have a favourite colour collection?

Beachcombed Beauties in mid blue fabric in & Wallpaper designed by LisaLeQuelenec available at Spoonflower

Based on this years spiral drawing project and washing up from my shore to yours, available at three different scales and in eight colourways a new repeat design at Spoonflower for fabric, wallpaper and soft furnishings and at RedBubble for gifts and home accessories my latest design - Beachcombed Beauties.

Co-ordinating designs are available in each colour collection in my stores.

Which colour is your favourite? I am rather liking the Midnight Blue.

A bit too late to be included but this is July's spiral drawing. The spiral of this cone shell is completely flat. I was really attracted to the contrast of the white with sepia markings that made it a joy to draw. This one may end up in it's own pattern at a later date at the moment I'm enjoying observing the shell from all angles whilst it sits on my desk.

Daringly Deco Scallops - new design available at Spoonflower & RedBubble

New designs added to my Coastal Collections of fabric, wallpaper, home accessories & gifts at Spoonflower and RedBubble. The scallop design features a reworking of a watercolour painting and the undulations with it made a subtle nod to Art Deco. I really enjoy working on patterns and putting collections together but I find thinking of names very HARD! If you have any coastal themed suggestions I would really appreciate the help.

The second design, Wave Stripes, (can you see what I did there?) is among new co-ordinates for the collection. There are also plains, spots, pinstripes and ticking stripes available and lots more. I recently made some patchwork grids using a selection of the designs by colour too.

New Collection - Ginkgo Leaves fabric & wallpaper - drypoint prints too

Ginkgo Leaves in Golden Yellow - new collection available as fabric and wallpaper on Spoonflower and as accessories and soft furnishings at RedBubble   ©2025LisaLeQuelenec

If you have been reading along on this blog for a while you may remember looking through a sketchbook that I started somewhere near the beginning that was just for ginkgo drawings and experiments. I was/am obsessed with the trees, I find them fascinating; the history, medical properties, their ability to survive what ever has been thrown at them as a species. I have a mental map of ginkgo's in my area and add to it when I spot them in places out of town that I visit.

Whilst having a tidy of the work room last year I stumbled upon the book, I haven't given it much thought for nearly a decade but as I flipped through I started seeing potential for surface pattern making.

So here it is a new collection Ginkgo Leaves, the product of a few months work. All designs are  available at Spoonflower in a beautiful range of fabrics and wallpaper finishes. For accessories, stationery and home goods the designs are available at RedBubble. I have made the collection available in four colourways with co-ordinating solid colours, pinstripes and patchworks. Do you have a favourite? It is a toss up between the golden yellow and aqua for me.

***Please forgive me as each image I have used here includes the details of mine and Spoonflowers name but as the images get pinned and shared it is useful to me to have the name in it so people can find the products.

Some designs are larger scale than others and they can all be mixed and matched within their colour groups. As an example Falling Ginkgo Leaves below is available in the different tones within the yellow group and on a variety of fabrics from cotton and linen to velvet and chiffon and many others.

There are seven different options in wallpaper, I love the silver metallic finish which gives a soft and subtle sheen.

As if that wasn't enough to stop my satisfy my yearning to see these trees in leaf I also have two new drypoint prints (available in my Etsy and Folksy stores;
