Head in the clouds

©2011 Lisa Le Quelenec

A couple of sky studies from my sketchbook done in pastel. It was strange to see the sun turn golden inbetween two banks of cloud - like it was trying to barge it's way through.

Hello Lisa, I am pleased to see you are taking advantage of the better weather and getting out and about with your sketch book. I like these sky studies very much. Generally I tend to introduce more neutral colours to create my sky effects but I am also a sucker for bold use of colour. Combining warm and cool greys is very effective when modelling cloud effects in any medium, but especially so with pastel overlaid on a transparent colour wash.

Hi Willie, thank you. There was lots of pinks and orange in the sky last night. I hope you got to see it.

Hi Roger, thank you for visiting. I think I'll give the pastel/watercolour combo a go, it's not something I've really tried before. We've been really lucky with the weather at the end of last week and it was such exciting light inbetween the showers this weekend. Makes me want to paint, paint, paint!
