River monoprint experiments

I needed to 'get away' from looking at the painting I've been working on so I've had a day of monoprinting and working through a couple of ideas. These two prints are on quarter sheet HOT PRESS watercolour paper using Winsor & Newton's water mixable oil paint. My plan is to work back into them with watercolour and maybe some oil pastel as soon as they are dry (at least a week). Working in this way sparks off lots of ideas for me I like the unpredictable results and surface texture the process creates. It's also a great way to loosen up which was much needed after working intensely on the current painting.

I like these - it's too long since I did any monoprinting. I need to do some soon.

It's a lovely way to free up and get more experimental isn't it?

Have you tried soft pastels over monoprints? I've done that with prints on Rosapina paper and it worked beautifully.

Hi Vivien, I've just been over to your blog then your comment popped up in my email. I'll have to try the soft pastel over the mono, I didn't think of that. I was thinking of the resists I could get with watercolour and missed the obvious. Thank you.

Hi Lisa what did you use to make the print image? wood or something else it would be interesting to hear how you produced these lovely images.

Hi Caroline, I used perspex for these, I thought I'd explain in a post. Have a great weekend.

Lisa, these look great, and I can’t wait to see what you do with them. Thanks for suggesting a post on the steps to how you produce your mono prints… I have no idea about it, but I’m in and experimental zone right now…. so would love to have a go if I have all the materials at hand.

Hi Maggie, I've been enjoying looking at your experiments. I'm sure that you would have the materials. Lots of things can be used as a plate to print from (wood, metal sheet, card, I've used those plastic sleeves that are used for filing before I just taped them to a drawing board.) If you do have a go I'd love to have a peek :o)
