Birch tree monoprints

Three birch monoprints ©2013Lisa Le Quelenec

I'm still exploring this technique, I think it lends itself well to this linear subject and I like the way certain elements run outside the borders of the traditional rectangular frame. I think I will be exploring this more. The lovely thing about these kinds of experiments is that it is a very fast method of exploring ideas and generating new paths to tread. This will be a month well spent.

Good morning Lisa!... Thanks for your recent visit and great commentss... one I might borrow for a future post to elaborate on! Good eye!

You are absolutely right about experimenting... "playing" I call it... but the same thing. Play means an intent to push the envelope for sheer pleasure of discovery... just as children do - a "no fear" approach.

This is a perfect way to get back into the rhythm and creative flow which gets tucked aside during lapses or busy... hard-to-get-painting-in periods like Christmas.

I love the way that you are playing with the randomness of trunks here... creating a really deep sense of space and variety in sizes and lighting! I can already see the potential of one of these compositions offering up.... a new moon????? HA HA!!

Good Playing... and Painting in 2013!
Warmest regards,
Bruce

I like all of these - the new year makes us want to explore and play and try new things. I know this will take you in a new direction and I can't wait to see where it goes :)

Hi Bruce, I'm enjoying my month of play. It's throwing up lots of new ideas and paths to tread. Using one technique is influencing others and subject to subject too. I love the connections that I am making. There's a freedom to not 'having' to create 'finished' work.

The idea of dirtying up paper or canvas to stop it being so intimidating is a good one isn't it. For years I didn't use an eraser (I very rarely do now unless it's to draw with.)or would draw in pen and ink, I still think that there is no such thing as a wrong mark. Maybe one that you have to work with but not wrong ;o)

Best wishes.

Thank you Rhonda, it's something in the air isn't it?

Thank you Jane, Happy New Year! I loved your pine cone btw.

Hi Victoria, thank you and welcome :o)
