Seas of Red

Poppies   acrylic ink A3 sketchbook page   ©2014Lisa Le Quelenec

It has been a very good year for poppies in my garden, there has been a lovely display. They are particularly beautiful when they are back lit from the sun. I have found it particularly poignant that the blooms were so many and lasted so long during this time of the 100 year anniversary of the start of World War I. Of all the things that I have seen and heard in the media about the commemorations this installation by ceramic artist Paul Cummins has been the most moving and beautiful to me so far. It is something I would love to see.

I went to se it today, Lisa. It is a moving experience. A beautiful tribute to mark the sacrifices made. But also a reminder of the awful reason behind that sacrifice.

Beautiful painting, Lisa, and thanks for sharing the link so we can visit if we're not in the area.

Good morning Lisa!... Your delicately painted poppy rendering is as powerful a tribute to the WW I conflict as the ceramic poppy installation video clip that you directed us to visit.

Your quiet reflection eloquently instills a poignant moment of personal and quiet reflection... while the other leaves me with a feeling of revulsion... that we should ... over and over again repeat our senseless spilling of blood an possibility.

How could the world have been changed... if those millions of "poppy" poets, writers painters, musicians... and young men and women who never fulfilled their dreaming?

Lest we forget...

Both powerfully conceived and moving testaments to a more peaceful way!

A great post Lisa! Thanks for sharing!

Good Painting!
Warmest regards,
Bruce

Hi Vandy I didn't realise until after I had posted that it isn't even nearly finished yet and that so many more poppies are still to be 'planted'. The numbers are just staggeringaren't they. I am hoping to go up in the autumn.

Hi Judy, thank you. It is such a thought provoking piece of installation isn't it.

Thank you Rhonda, it is such a powerful piece of art that I just had to share.

Hi Bruce, it is shameful how 'we' the human race carry on isn't it. It sticks in my throat that we continue to let it happen over and over again...

I simply LOVE THIS! Love poppies very much and you expressed them with beautifull but very strong simplicity - pure beauty!
