May's spiral drawing for 2025 pencil on toned sketchbook page ©2025LisaLeQuelenec |
I started but I couldn't stop! Three spirals for May as they are getting quite addictive. I'm chasing my tail still trying to catch up on projects that I feel should have been finished already. Sometimes things take longer than you think. I was hoping to be able to have the Ran's Daughters project finished and ready to share buy the end on April but it hasn't quite worked out that way. I am getting close though... even with distracting spiral drawings in the mix.

Oh, my! I looked at these and am envious of our ability to capture these beauties. They reminded me of the soft, unbroken, smooth beauty of youth in the smooth spiral shell and then, perhaps, more aged, more worn, more roughness in the other two…not the soft smoothness of youth but the signs of age. Lovely drawings. And don’t worry about Ran’s Daughters…they will be done when they are ready to be done. I wouldn’t rush (somehow I feel you never let yourself rush through artwork)…just let them show up when they come :). I’ll be here watching. Hope you are having a happy spring. We are having more rain rain rain so we are going to be as green as Ireland soon! The Kentucky Derby was run in such a muddy track, I felt sorry for the jockeys and the horses covered in mud!
I forgot to tell you, my step-daughter LOVED her ginkgo cups for her birthday in April!
Lisa these are just gorgeous pieces of art. Your drawing skills are fabulous and the toned sketchbook paper really enhances these drawings. I am sure you will get your project of the Ran's Daughters finished and being sharing them soon. I adored your list of treasures for the month of April. Have a lovely day friend. Hugs!
Thank you so much Rhonda. I'm enjoying picking out the next spiral, I have a few different shells in mind and the next one I think will be a complete change of texture....maybe a bit more worn, crusty sea hag than seaworn smooth. I like the contrast and comparisons. I am near giving up on my intention to turn Ran's Daughters into a book. I can't find a satisfactory way to bind the sheets so they will probably wash up soon as separate pieces.
So glad that your step-daughter liked the ginkgo cups. Hopefully a little bit of sunshine as it sounds like a lot of rain that you have had. Best wishes.
Hi Debbie, the toned paper is a joy to work on. I think it is the star in these drawings. I have had the book for quite a few years with only a few pages used but it has been perfect for this series. I'm glad that you liked the list for April, it made me really stop and think of all the lovely things I had seen and enjoyed. I think maybe something I should think about regularly - thank you for the prompt! Best wishes.
