Watercolour for Laura

Well, that was a fun challenge Laura 😉 I think this is as small as I an go to make a big feeling of space. At least I think it worked.... My eyes are not what they once were. I tried to make it look like they were old style camera negatives except in colour..... I'm not clever enough to do negative tones and colour, (I think it would have been all oranges and burnt sienna. )  so maybe more like the old transparency slides... I think it might be a little bit migraine inducing to work this small for long so I might revert back to my gargantuan (.. cough.... in comparison) scale next.

Thank you for the great challenge, it was good fun.

You can see Laura's blog  here.  Full of beautiful, delicate coastal watercolours.

Hello, Lisa! I'm so delighted my comment led to this exploration! Love the "framing" idea and you really have captured the open, light feeling of a blue sky! Challenge met, I'd say!

Lovely work and you did capture the expanse of the sky in a small format - love that you made it like old-fashioned film strips! Now how about how BIG you can go? ha ha. Do you normally paint on a half sheet or less?

Lisa just catching up on your last few posts. Glad to see you have returned to your blog. Wonderful job of creating the look of negatives for Laura's challenge. Will go over to visit her as well.

Your sky series are gorgeous. You put the lock down time to good use and captured the beauty of the heavens. As always your artwork is so inspiring. Take care and have a great weekend. Hugs!

Thank you so much Laura! It was a lot of fun to do.

Hi Rhonda, thank you. Over the last year I have been working really quite small things have been needing to be easily pick up and put downable as I haven't had many big chunks of time for painting. Alot of paintings in normal times are between half and quarter sheet as I tend to square off.

I have painted very big before. When I was around twenty I painted a very large mural, unfortunately I only have a couple of very faded photos of it now (it was that long ago) and it doesn't exist anymore. Looking back I'm not sure if I was brave or foolhardy.....the confidence of youth ;o)

Thank you so much Maywyn, I hope you are enjoying your break.

Thank you Debbie for your kind words. It's funny but when I painted the sky studies I did wonder how everyone was doing in blogland and if they were looking up and painting skies too. I thought of you walking your doggos as I walked mine. Wishing you a happy and creative week.
